Kamakura: 03.21.2018 – Day 4
We started out today with a lazy morning (David laughs during this description), got out of bed at 6:00AM and had our standard hotel breakfast. Oh my what rebels we are!!!
Since the weather was particularly rainy and gloomy, we relaxed in the hotel for a decent amount of time. After relaxing, we decided to get up and make some moves. One of our itinerary items for Tokyo was Kamakura so we decided to seize the day! We took a train to Kamakura, in total this was an hour and a half train ride. During the train ride, the weather quickly changed from rain to snow. Not the best day for an outdoor adventure, but we did try to prep accordingly by purchasing an umbrella in the morning.
Once we arrived at Kamakura station, David and I decided it would be nice to stop somewhere to grab food for lunch, especially because the weather wasn’t getting any better. We found a random hipster hole in the wall restaurant called Barchie’s. What a wonderful find this place was! At this point, I will say that this restaurant was my favorite part of the trip so far. The people were not only amazing, but the food and drinks were too. David agreed, we could have stayed there the rest of the day.
We started off with a couple Craft Beers:
-Kinsyachi Fruit Beer (Missy)
-Yokoyama Bay- Bay Amber (David)
Both very good!
The waiter recommended the food and of course if you know us we usually decide off recommendations, here was our order:
Appetizer:
-Tuna Carpaccio
Main dish:
-BBQ Pork spare ribs with French Fries, salad, & vegetables
Dessert:
-Choclate Brownie
-Roasted green tea latte
Roasted Green Tea Latte Pouring PROS!!!
After lunch we traveled by a local train to Hase. Once we arrived at Hase, we walked in the snow to the very large Buddha statue. We were able to explore the grounds and even went inside the giant Buddha.
The snow kept changing from snow to sleet to rain and was very, very cold.
Once we completed our visit to Kotoku-in, we walked back to the train station to grab the local train back to Kamakura station. While at the Hase station, we picked up a hot tea in the vending machine because it was so cold. Once we arrived at Kamakura station, we grabbed a small bite to eat called “The Big”. Essentially “the big” is a fried potato cake. DELICIOUS! We then traveled back to the hotel.
We were purely exhausted by the time we arrived at the hotel but David insisted we grab one drink before the end of the night to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.
David ordered us to Japanese whiskeys to try:
-Komagatake single malt on the rocks
-Nikka Coffey malt
I wasn’t a big fan of the Nikka but I really liked the Komagatake, might have to purchase before we head home.
After a couple whiskeys, we went to the executive lounge and enjoyed some snackies and champagne before bed.
Another successful day! Till tomorrow…
